Our Mission
"To establish a local network of support and an active volunteer movement to support self worth and sense of belonging among residents." In February 2001, AGCSS was selected by the Ministry of Community Development and Sports to set up and run a pilot Neighbourhood Link aptly named Joy Centre Neighbourhood Link. Located at the HDB Studio Apartment at Block 701B Yishun Avenue 5, Singapore, Joy Centre services over 40 blocks of HDB flats in the Chong Pang RC Zone, targeting residents of the studio apartment block and the neighbouring blocks. Joy Centre, was officially opened by our Prime Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong on May 19, 2002. The Facilities at Joy Centre ► Administrative office cum information and referral counter ► Multi - purpose hall and two activity rooms ► Pantry and storage areas The total area is approximately 367 sqm . We provide assistance to anyone in need. In particular, Joy Centre is a focal point for residents, especially the elderly to come together for activities and community services that will enhance their social well - being and support network. The Objectives of Joy Centre Neighbourhood Link ► To promote the spirit of volunteerism and engage residents to be active participants in the neighborhood ► To serve as link between residents and service providers especially the vulnerable residents ► To provide and co-ordinate activities that will promote inter-generational interaction and contribute to the general well being of the neighborhood ► To mobilize community resources in building a local network of support for vulnerable resident Joy Centre's Programmes / Services ► Develop a local network of support and initiate community group work ► Linking residents with grassroot organisations , VWO and schools ► Coordinating support services for vulnerable residents ► Initiating and supporting mutual self help groups ► Providing information , making referrals and doing follow up ► Coordinating Talks for the community ► Keeping a register of vulnerable residents |
